Today I felt really sick getting out of bed and didn’t make it to breakfast. As the day progressed I felt worse and worse, like my stomach was eating itself. Eating food made it worse and unfortunately I felt super sick at Paulaner. Needless to say I had to excuse myself during the presentation. However, I started feeling better. Not enough to try the free Paulaner beer we got at the end of the tour but enough to eat the food. Word of advice: if you are offered the meat dish or vegetarian dish, go with the vegetarian. I got a peculiar piece of meat again with another starchy side of potatoes.
This was probably my favorite tour and I was fascinated by the bottling plant. Our tour guide had his bachelor’s and master’s in brewing science so he was pretty damn knowledgeable about beer.
Of course when I got back to the hotel I took a two hour nap and woke up just in time to get ready for the farewell dinner at the Hofbräuhaus. Eunice was running late so I just took a taxi with her to the humongous beer house/restaurant. We literally could not find anyone for a good 20 minutes and finally checked the third floor, which was also just a huge room full of people. Since the Holiday Inn screwed up our check in, we all got an extra free beer with our meal. (at this point of the week I’m in no mood for beer) Of course our meal is extra unique today…meat with dumplings! We also had entertainment from the drunk Germans and the several bachelor parties going on at the same time. One poor bachelor was dressed like a fairy in lederhosen but he didn’t seem to mind and embraced his fairy wings.
Me and the roomie, Kelsey :)
We later headed to the city center and for some reason ended up at the Irish pub again. I didn’t think it was anything special, but oh well. Jackie and I attempted to get free drinks, but only Jackie succeeded from a big German guy with a black eye (which we later learned was a birthmark). By this time of the week, I wasn’t in a mood to be out, and some of us headed home early to pack and get ready for Vienna!
